Web Player

Listen from the browser.

Viewers don't need to download an app to hear your show. The web player runs in the browser on any phone, tablet or computer, and offers the same synchronized playback as the mobile app.

You can access the web player here: https://player.pulsemesh.io

Background playback

Once playback has started, the viewer can switch apps or lock their phone and the web player holds sync through every song change. The phone can sit in a pocket or a cup holder for the whole show.

This works in these browsers:

  • iPhone: Safari (iOS 18.6 or newer), and Chrome, Firefox and Edge (iOS 18.4 or newer). On older iOS versions audio keeps playing in the background, but sync is less precise until the viewer returns to the page.
  • Android: Chrome, Edge and Samsung Internet, plus links opened from the Google app.

Two cases need a different browser, and the web player handles both for the viewer:

  • Facebook, Instagram and other in-app browsers stop the page when the phone locks. The web player detects them and offers one tap to reopen the show in the phone's own browser.
  • Firefox on Android pauses the page when the screen turns off. The web player suggests opening the show in Chrome instead; viewers can choose to stay in Firefox.

Sync accuracy

The web player uses the same sync engine as the app and holds the same ±10 ms of your show's timing. On our test rig, which records the show and several phones at once and reads timecode from each, phones running the web player in the background stayed within 5 ms of each other across browsers, apart from rare, brief audio-output hiccups on some Android phones that the player corrects within seconds. They were also typically within 10 ms of the iPhone and Android apps. In one 250-second run through five song changes, a Galaxy S24 on Samsung Internet with the screen off and an iPhone 14 on Safari in another app were never more than 2.4 ms apart.

This is playback timing from the phone. Bluetooth speakers and car stereos add their own delay, which the web player corrects for automatically when the device reports it (see below).

Web player or app?

For nearly every viewer the web player and the app sync equally well, so you can offer whichever is easiest for your audience. The web player needs nothing installed, which makes it the simplest choice for a QR code on a yard sign.

The app adds PerfectSync calibration. Both the web player and the app automatically correct for the delay that Bluetooth speakers and car stereos report, but some devices report it wrong. For those, PerfectSync measures the real delay with a short chirp and calibrates to it. If a viewer's car or speaker sounds a little behind your show, suggest the app.

As the display owner you can choose to offer the web player, the mobile apps, or both. A Smart QR code opens the app for viewers who have it installed and the web player for everyone else.
