Viewers hear your show in their cars by connecting their phone to PulseMesh — the phone plays your soundtrack synchronized to your lights, and the car stereo carries it over Bluetooth, CarPlay, or Android Auto like any other audio. Cars are the main venue, not the edge case
It's easy to picture phone-in-hand viewers on the sidewalk, but for most displays the audience watches from cars — parked at the curb of a residential show just as often as rolling through a drive-through event. Warm, private, radio-volume loud: the car is where your audio has to be right.
With FM that meant tuning a station. With PulseMesh the phone is the receiver: the viewer opens the web player or app, taps your display, and their car plays it exactly the way it plays a podcast.
The Bluetooth delay problem
Car audio is buffered. Between the phone, the Bluetooth link, and the head unit's own processing, the sound leaves the speakers a beat after the phone "plays" it — and the amount varies from car to car. For music alone nobody notices. Next to a synchronized light display, everyone does: the lights hit the beat and the horns arrive late.
PulseMesh playback itself is locked to your show clock within ±10ms. The car's delay happens after that, on the last hop from phone to speakers — so it needs its own correction.
What Perfect Sync does
On Pro plans and up, Perfect Sync measures and compensates for car audio delays automatically: the phone shifts its playback so that what comes out of the car speakers lands on the beat, not what comes out of the phone. CarPlay and Android Auto stay in step with the lights, and the viewer does nothing — no calibration screen, no settings, no "hold your phone up to the speaker."
Because every car's delay is different, this is a per-phone correction, not a fixed offset you set on your display.
On the free Starter plan, phones play in sync through their own speakers, but car-stereo playback gets no delay compensation — audio through the car will trail the lights slightly. It's one of the main reasons displays upgrade: see what else Pro adds.
Setting your display up for car viewing
- Make joining effortless from a driver's seat. A yard-sign QR code viewers can scan from the curb is the standard move; on Pro plans and up, Display Codes give you a 4-character code passengers can type in seconds.
- Size your geo-radius for where cars actually stop — up to 0.5 miles on Starter, 2 miles on Pro, so the parked-down-the-block crowd is still inside the circle.
- Remind viewers the screen can lock. The web player keeps playing in the background, so the phone can sit in a cup holder for the whole show.
- Data isn't a concern — playback uses about ~2MB per hour per viewer.
Common questions
Do viewers have to calibrate anything? No. The correction is automatic; viewers connect their phone to the car like they would for music or a podcast.
Does it work with CarPlay and Android Auto? Yes — those are exactly the pipelines Perfect Sync keeps on the beat.
What about cars without Bluetooth? Any way a phone can reach the car speakers works — an aux cable adds far less delay than Bluetooth to begin with. And worst case, the phone's own speaker is always in sync.
