Display Codes
Use 4-character codes for direct display access
Display codes provide a simple way for viewers to access your display directly, without needing to rely on geo-location discovery. This Pro+ feature allows viewers to connect using a 4 character code, or by using a direct link, without enabling location services on their device.
What are Display Codes?
Display codes are unique 4-character alphanumeric codes (like A3F9
) that viewers can enter to instantly connect to your display. Each display can have its own code, making it easy to share and manage access to your synchronized audio experience.
Creating a Display Code
Display codes are available for Pro and Commercial tier subscribers. To create a display code:
- Navigate to your display in the dashboard
- Click on the Display Code section
- Click Generate Code to create a new 4-character code
- Your unique code will be displayed and ready to share
The system automatically generates a unique code that's easy to remember and type.
QR Code Types
When you generate a display code, PulseMesh creates three different types of QR codes for various use cases:
Mobile App QR Code
- Opens directly in the PulseMesh mobile app
- If app is not installed, prompts to download it
- Best experience for regular viewers
- Requires the app to be installed
Web Player QR Code
- Opens in the device's web browser
- No app installation required
- Works on any smartphone
Smart QR Code
- Intelligently detects if the app is installed
- Opens in app if already installed, otherwise uses web player
Sharing Your Display Code
There are several ways to share your display code with viewers:
Direct Code Entry
Share the 4-character code (e.g., A3F9
) for viewers to enter manually:
- In the mobile app: Open menu → Enter Display Code
- On the website: Visit pulsemesh.com → Enter Code
QR Code Display
- Download QR codes from your dashboard
- Print on signs, flyers, or display boards
- Add to your website or social media
- Include in event programs or promotional materials
Digital Sharing
- Share the direct link via text, email, or social media - note that links will only work when the viewer is near your display
- Post QR codes on your display's website
- Add to digital event invitations
Location Verification
Even with a display code, viewers must still be near your display to connect. Display codes use geo-IP verification instead of device location services, which offers several advantages:
How It Works
- Geo-IP Verification: The app uses the viewer's IP address to verify they're near your display
- No Location Services Required: Viewers can connect without enabling GPS or location permissions
- Privacy-Friendly: No precise location tracking needed
When Location Services Are Required
In some cases, geo-IP verification may not work:
- A small number of cases where viewers might be using a SIM/eSIM that is registered in another countery
- VPN or proxy connections
- Unusual network configurations
When geo-IP cannot verify proximity, the app will prompt viewers to enable location services as a fallback before allowing the viewer to connect.
Benefits
This dual approach helps:
- Maintain accurate viewer statistics
- Prevent unauthorized remote access
- Comply with music licensing requirements
Managing Display Codes
Changing Your Code
If you need a new code:
- Go to your display settings
- Click Regenerate Code
- Confirm the change (this will invalidate the old code)
- Update any printed materials with the new code
Disabling a Code
To temporarily or permanently disable access:
- Navigate to display settings
- Toggle Display Code to off
- The code becomes inactive immediately
- You can re-enable it anytime without changing the code
Multiple Displays
Each display gets its own unique code, making it easy to:
- Track statistics per display
- Share specific displays with different audiences
- Manage access independently

Subscription Requirements
Display codes are a Pro+ feature. View our pricing page for plan details and limits.
If you downgrade your subscription, display codes will be automatically disabled but preserved. They'll reactivate when you upgrade again.
Troubleshooting
"Invalid Display Code" Error
- Double-check the code for typos
- Ensure the display code hasn't been regenerated
- Verify the display is active and not disabled
Location Verification Failed
- Ensure you're within the display's radius
- If prompted for location services, the viewer's network may not support geo-IP verification
- Try a different network connection (WiFi vs cellular)
- Move closer to the display center point
- Check if you're using a VPN (disable if possible)
Best Practices
- Clear Signage: Display codes and QR codes prominently at your venue entrance
- Multiple Options: Provide options - QR codes, manual entry codes, and location based discovery
- Test Regularly: Verify codes work before events
- Monitor Usage: Check analytics to see which access method viewers prefer
